Even In Old Age (By Pam Scott)

Just last week, the staff read through Psalm 92 together. As we got to verses 14 and 15, something really caught my eye. Words from the Living Bible translation say, “Even in old age they will still produce fruit and be vital and green. This honors the Lord, and exhibits his faithful care. He is my shelter. There is nothing but goodness in Him!”

I love this great reminder, but what really caught my eye is the note I put next to those verses in my Bible 47 years ago. It was a reminder to me back when I was still a teenager, to always produce fruit – even in old age.

Well, 47 years later, I truly appreciate that reminder that even as we age, there is work to be done for His Kingdom. That is something I really love about our seniors at PHBC. They don’t stop serving; they are such faithful servants in so many areas, whether it be teaching a Sunday School class or churchtime, serving with our kids at IMPACT Night, caring for our little ones in the nursery, leading a Growth Group, rolling bandages or stuffing pillows at White Cross, preparing and serving at the Autumn Fellowship meals and funeral lunches, making decisions and leading on committees, cutting out crafts, organizing supplies, cleaning up the worship center, visiting in homes…and the list could go on and on.

The point is, God has a purpose for each of us, and that doesn’t change even as we ALL continue to age. So thank you to all of our faithful servants – keep serving our wonderful Lord and continue to love people and point them to Jesus.
