Exceeding Our Goal (By Dan Barfell)

On Sunday, November 19, we took a special offering for our annual Thanksgiving Offering. Our goal was to raise $20,000 on this one Sunday to help supply clean drinking water to our newly adopted village of Ahumbe, Nigeria. I am so glad to report to you that by God’s grace and your generosity, we exceeded our goal!

WE RAISED $23,832!
Below is the email exchange that took place between me and our contact when I told him the news.

Pastor Dan:
I have tears in my eyes as I am writing this email.

Yesterday was our annual Thanksgiving Offering. We usually collect about $12,000 for whatever the project is. This year, we laid out the vision for Adopt-A-Village and set our offering goal for $20,000, knowing it was a stretch over previous years’ history.

Today, moments ago, I was just told that yesterday’s offering for our village of Ahumbe was $23,832!
God is so good! And the people of PHBC…they are the best ever!

I don’t know what I’m most excited about: the difference this will make to the village of Ahumbe or the fact our people have responded so well to the vision and need!
Response:
This is amazing news of how the People of God showed up. I am so thankful and proud of [PHBC].

From the start, we talked about how we wanted this to be a WIN-WIN-WIN situation. A win for PHBC, a win for those doing [the aid work], but most of all, to be a win and a blessing to the people of Ahumbe. Together we want to see the village TRANSFORMED – transforming the way they educate their children, treat their wives, grow food and make money, but most importantly transformed by the renewing of their minds…

I am so encouraged and I rejoice with you in this great news. I look forward to even greater things in our partnership together. Thank you again and thank you to all our friends and family at PHBC.

Way to go, church! I couldn’t be more proud!

Way to go PHBC. Big hugs to all but not enough to come home early.
