Revealed (By Pam Scott)

Just recently, I attended the funeral of a 101-year-old lady, who had an impact on me when I was a child. Ethel was one of my Sunday School teachers when I was in elementary school. I remember how she greeted us each week with a smile, and relayed how she was so glad to see each one of us.

As she creatively shared God’s truths to us each week, her Bible was always open to emphasize that these were not her words, but God’s Word to direct our lives. That always stuck with me, as I knew she was serious about us understanding that this truth was from God Himself. I believe until the day she died, God’s Word was important to her.

Another thing that really stuck out to me was a mystery box that she had each week. We all got a turn to put our hand into the box to feel what was inside. Of course we couldn’t see it, but just through touching it, we gained a glimpse of what it might be. Whoever came closest to identifying the treasure, would get to take it home – it was theirs.

As I was reflecting back to 57 years ago, I was reminded how Ethel relied on God’s Word to help give her a glimpse of heaven. But upon her home going, those mysteries of heaven were revealed, and she is now experiencing the treasures to the fullest. I trust that each of us is spending time in God’s Word, to help unveil the treasures God has for us each and every day. And that we, like Ethel, are passing on those same treasures as we point others to Jesus (I Peter 1:23).
