Why Am I Surprised? (By Pam Scott)

Do you ever have one of those moments where you smack yourself in the forehead and ponder, “Why am I surprised?” I had one of those moments recently. A team of people, along with many of you, have been praying with us for clear direction for this summer’s new outreach for kids. We’ve spent months praying, meeting, collecting ideas, having lively discussions, getting input from you, and then came time to make some decisions.

I went around the table asking each person to delete from the top outreach names, and give a reason why. They then had to present their first choice out of the top names and defend why. At the end, we would take a final vote.

But to my amazement, each person came to the exact same conclusion, no need for a vote. Wow, was I surprised – because a week prior to that, we would not have been there. But now I’m smacking myself in the forehead, saying, “Duh, why should I be surprised?” This is what we prayed for, and with God at the helm, He brought the unity and same-mindedness that was needed to make a unanimous decision.

So the new name for our summer outreach is “Kids’ Summer Shake-Up”. To God be the glory, things are starting to come together. Keep praying! I would love to have more of those moments where I wonder, why should I be surprised?
