Designed for a Purpose (By Tim H.)

Here is the sea, great and wide, which teems with creatures innumerable, living things both small and great. There go the ships, and Leviathan, which you formed to play in it. These all look to you, to give them their food in due season. When you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are filled with good things. When you hide your face, they are dismayed; when you take away their breath, they die and return to their dust. When you send forth your Spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the ground. May the glory of the Lord endure forever; may the Lord rejoice in his works… (Psalm 104:25-31)
This is a passage I read to the group gathered at a recent Hot Food Night at PHBC. I took time to remind the group that all of creation was designed for a specific purpose. I also noted that God gives us what we need when we need it, and in His timing. Animals, unlike humans, enjoy the freedom of doing what they were formed for. Elisabeth Elliot said, “A clam glorifies God better than we do, because the clam is being everything it was created to be.”

We need to remember that we were created to worship God and bring Him glory. This is why God created man and woman. But we know that this all changed when sin entered the world, and now we get sidetracked and distracted from doing the very thing we were created for. Every man and woman strives to worship and glorify something, and it’s only once we have a personal relationship with Christ that we can pursue doing what we created to do: worship and serve God.
