Jesus is the Reason (By Pam Scott)

I love this time of year – the twinkling lights, cookie baking, people celebrating, caroling, joyous music, gifts, giggles, and great food. I just attended a great event that had all of that, and it was lots of fun…but I left that event with some feelings of sadness.

Yes, the lights were beautiful, and the people were great, but something was missing. There was no manger to be found, no mention of our Savior. It is the birthday of our King, and He wasn’t even invited or represented at this event.

So then, what is the point?

I pray that all of us remember the true reason we celebrate Christmas. May we never forget the great announcement that was given to the shepherds that first Christmas: “I bring you good news of a great joy which shall be for all the people, for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior who is Christ the Lord. …you will find a baby wrapped in cloths, and lying in a manger” (Luke 2:10-12).

“…you shall call His name Jesus, for it is He who will save His people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21).

May each of us, amongst all the twinkle and glitter, as we gather with family and friends, always keep Jesus in the center of our celebrations. May we never lose sight of the true, lasting joy that only comes through knowing Jesus. Don’t forget to spread that joy in all your celebrations this season. Merry Christmas, everyone!
