The Pursuit of Unity: Part 7 – Conclusion (By Tim H.)

Over the past several posts, I have expanded on the word “Unity.” The goal was to encourage my brothers and sisters in Christ as we work towards reconciling matters that have brought disunity to our church. The last thing God wants for PHBC is to see the body divided and His children at odds with one another. There are many facets to the events that have led us to needing reconciliation and the only way a church can move forward is to look to the truth in the Scriptures. That was the goal over the past blog posts.

There is a story about the Great Wall of China. China was looking to secure its border from invaders to the north. The wall was built and designed to do just that.

It is so thick that no invading force could knock it over. There were posts built at regular intervals for protection to stay and guard. The width of the wall allowed for chariots and troops to be moved easily from one position to another. The height of the wall gave the advantage needed to fend off any attacking army. They felt they had successfully protected their country from the enemy.

In the first one hundred years of the Great Wall of China, the country was invaded three times. An enemy bribed the gatekeepers and entered into the land unnoticed.

If the body of Christ is not vigilant and diminishes, being unified, attack is eminent – it will happen again and again if not fortified. God designed us to be in fellowship with Him and with one another. Our treatment of one another is a powerful tool to reaching the lost. Just like people during the biblical era watched and listened to Jesus’ actions and were saved, people today are watching the actions of the church. We need to do everything we can to be unified so the church can be as effective as possible in reaching the lost.

Remember UNITY:

  • Uplift
  • Need
  • Integrity
  • Trust
  • Yielding

For PHBC to have a ripple effect for generations of believers to come, it needs to be unified today. Will you commit to being a part of the body of Christ that will pursue unity for the sake of the Gospel and reaching the lost in Parma, Northeast Ohio, the United States, and around the world? Will you be a part of helping people find and follow Jesus Christ?

ACTION STEP: Do you want to be like the guard at the Great Wall of China who was bribed by the enemy to take down the country from the inside? Write down one thing can you do that will have a ripple effect of uniting the church for the sake of moving the Gospel to the unreached. Pray over it! Act on it!
