Different Perspectives (By Pam Scott)

Perspectives can be so different depending on where one is sitting. I had this experience as I was sitting on the opposite end of the couch from my mom. Both of us were watching a bird feeder, where a bird was perched on the other side, so all we could see was the tip of the underside of the tail. My mom got all excited as she proclaimed her woodpecker was back!

I was thinking, but not out loud of course, I bet that’s a female cardinal. And as the blue jay came around to our side of the feeder, I realized how different our perspectives can be, and reality wasn’t experienced until that bird came into full view.

So it is with different situations in our lives. Our thinking can be skewed, just because we see things or experiences in life from only one angle. Then I started thinking about our calling as believers and as a church. It’s so easy to get sidetracked by other things, but our calling remains the same: to point others to Jesus. I trust we remind ourselves of that calling each and every day and don’t allow other perspectives or disappointments to distract us from making a difference for eternity. What an honor and privilege given to us by Jesus himself, “Go, and make disciples…”

Let’s remember to keep the main thing the main thing and follow Jesus’ perspective. Life will take on a whole new look.
